  Welcome to the June issue of our newsletter. This is a really busy time of year for us as we are in the throes of the show season. Last weekend we were at an NCCPG Specialist Plant Sale at Helmingham Hall and the Flower and Continental Market at Bury St Edmunds. Talk about a rough Bank Holiday - the weather was foul but managing to meet lots of new customers made up for the drenching.
This month we look at the impact of h. 'Tokudama' on the development of new cultivars...
 
                   
                   
 
H. 'Tokudama' is a beautiful, slow growing hosta that has many offspring.
The following table lists sports, crosses and hybrids that have been introduced from h. 'Tokudama', both directly and as a result of further breeding. As usual we have focused on cultivars we have in our own collection:

Vital statistics...
Mound size:
a medium sized plant growing to between 15-18" tall.
Leaves: 8" long x 6" wide.
The leaves are nicely rugose and of a heavy texture so more resistant to slug and snail damage.
Flowers: white with a tinge of lavender.


h. 'Tokudama'

Some specialists have classified h. 'Tokudama' as a species but just as many declare it to be a cultivar.
